Saint Benjamin the Deacon the Hieromartyr who was martyred in Persia. Our church honors his memory on October 13.
Saint Benjamin lived at the beginning of the 5th century AD, during the reign of Isdigergis of Persia and Theodosius the Younger of Constantinople.
He probably came from Persia and was a Deacon of the Church there. He preached with heat of zeal and power of speech the truths of the Gospel and thus attracted many pagans. For his actions, he was reported to King Isdigergis and subjected to horrible tortures, during which he surrendered his chosen soul.
