Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Icon
Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Icon
Feast Day: 30 November
Saint Andrew the First-Called was the very first disciple to follow Christ, making him a foundational figure in the life of the Church. His name — uniquely Greek rather than Hebrew — reflects the cultural openness of Galilee, where Greek influence was strong and familiar.
A fisherman by trade, he responded immediately to Christ’s invitation to become a “fisher of men.” His entire life became a witness of humility, courage, and missionary zeal. Saint Andrew preached the Gospel across many lands, bringing countless people to Christ and ultimately sealing his faith with martyrdom on the X-shaped cross that bears his name.
He is especially honoured by those seeking:
• courage to follow God’s calling
• strength in discipleship and mission
• perseverance in trials and challenges
• blessings for families, workers, and travellers
A meaningful icon for home prayer corners, families, and anyone who feels inspired by the Apostle who first recognised and proclaimed the Messiah.
